LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVE EARNS NATIONAL RECYCLING AWARD

 

Reading based company; Frasers Office Supplies Ltd beat hundreds of other regional and national office supplies companies to become Cartridge Recycler of the Year 2010 at a recent industry awards conference. 
 
Sponsored and managed by K2 Supplies, the competition was designed to reward members of a national office supplies buying network for their printer cartridge recycling initiatives during 2010.  
 
Over 60 million printer toners and cartridges are thrown into landfill every year and they take 450-1000 years to decompose. Frasers have been highlighting the need to recycle printer cartridges for several years as part of their ongoing commitment to help the environment and this year they collected a staggering 6123 used toners and cartridges free of charge from local businesses for recycling. 
 
With the average toner cartridge measuring 12” in length, Frasers calculated that, if placed end-to-end, the line would stretch to nearly 2km – equivalent to around 17 football pitches, or almost 5 times the height of the Empire State Building! Not only has this massive effort earned Frasers the title of Cartridge Recycler of the Year but it has also helped to raise valuable funds for local charities through donations made from the profits.  
 
Frasers Sales & Marketing Director, Nick Clark commented on receiving the award: “To win this award is a fantastic achievement and we are delighted that our efforts have been recognised. At Frasers we are constantly working hard with our customers to reduce our impact on the environment and encourage “green” practices - cartridge recycling is just a small part of what we do.”
 
Frasers continue to collect used printer toners and cartridges as well as old mobile phone handsets and used batteries free of charge. Thames Valley businesses are always welcome to join the initiative and should contact Frasers directly.
